5/13/2023 0 Comments Dark Triumph by Robin LaFevers![]() ![]() This second installment in the trilogy focuses on Sybella, though Ismae makes a few appearances.įirst off, to anyone picking up this book, I'd highly recommend taking the time to re-read Grave Mercy first, or at least skim the last several chapters of it. While I had somewhat mixed feelings about that book, I still enjoyed it overall and wanted to read more set in that universe, particularly about Sybella and Annith, the other two girls who befriend Ismae when she arrives at the convent. So Dark Triumph was definitely one of my most anticipated books of 2013, and it didn't disappoint! Dark Triumph is the follow-up to Grave Mercy, which was one of the first books that I read and blogged about here. ![]() ![]() See more reviews on Short & Sweet Reviews! ![]()

5/13/2023 0 Comments The Hill We Climb by Amanda Gorman![]() Others criticize her piece for being too plain and missing many literary elements that create a poem. This isn’t a tiny hill, this is a mountain, but it’s doable,” said Lin Illingworth, an English teacher at Hollis Brookline. “It’s not saying we’ve arrived, it’s saying this is the work in front of us and it’s hard. ![]() The poem speaks to the work America must accomplish but how far the country has come, hence the fitting title, “The Hill We Climb”. I also felt like I was witnessing a very important historical moment,” said Lara Coady, ‘22, the president of HB’s Young Democrats Club, “her words would ideally bring hope to kids for unity, for change, for a better future.” “When I heard her poem I felt inspired, it’s so beautifully written. Her words speak to the future, while reflecting on the past, and urge the country to unite for a common purpose. Her poem, “The Hill We Climb” encapsulates the necessity of unification throughout America. Gorman provides a strong perspective throughout her poem, ‘The Hill We Climb,’ as a black artist living through the Black Lives Matter movement and the insurrection. Just weeks before, rioters had climbed the very same steps, criticizing the democracy of the country. ![]() Amanda Gorman, the inaugural poet, stood on the capitol steps on January 20, 2021, sharing a vision of unity and hope with the country. ![]() 5/13/2023 0 Comments A column of fire book review![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The novel is an immersive journey through the tumultuous world of 16th-century Europe and some of the bloodiest religious wars in history. Follett makes use of multiple winding plotlines and optimistic characters equipped to see any battle through to the end. Ned and Margery’s love for each other sustains itself despite decades and miles apart, but can it survive their ideological differences? This sweeping epic delivers suspense, history, and romance in equally satisfying, if sometimes heavy-handed, measures. When 18-year-old nobleman Ned Willard loses his sweetheart Margery and his family’s importing business to Margery’s upward-climbing Catholic family after the queen condemns them for being pro-Protestant, he decides to join Protestant Princess Elizabeth Tudor’s secret service. Queen “Bloody Mary” Tudor is killing Protestants. In the middle of 16th-century England, Kingsbridge Cathedral stands above a town divided by religious conflict. Treasonous plots, family rifts, and international political intrigue abound in the third installment of Follett’s ( Pillars of the Earth) Kingsbridge series of historical dramas. ![]() ![]() ![]() Cook in a preheated oven at 400 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes. ![]() Take 1 tablespoon of mushroom and mozzarella mix and wrap a quarter cup of meat mixture around it.Combine ground moose, ground pork, egg, bread crumbs, parsley, garlic, chives, cayenne, celery salt, and paprika in a large bowl.1/2 cup heavy whipping cream (or half and half).500g ground moose or venison (extra lean ground beef is okay too). We’re fairly sure that Alice (the Amontillado executive chef) would be appalled by our presentation, but it was delicious. ![]() He adapted it to have more of an Aboriginal and creole flavour profile and it turned out pretty well. Stuffed moose balls is a variation of an exploding meatball that Éric had developed for an all-day marathon of Good Omens a few years ago. ‘This is amazing,’ Kennedy said, after trying both dishes. Kennedy ordered, with Jason’s guidance, the Stuffed Mooseballs, which were moose meatballs in a primavera sauce stuffed with mushrooms and mozzarella. The food was a fusion of Aboriginal, North American Italian, and Creole cuisines. ![]() 5/13/2023 0 Comments Brett morgen kurt cobain![]() When I first met her, I went to her house and we shook hands and she said to me, “I just met you, but already I know you more than I know Kurt.” What she was getting at was the fact that she has no memory of Kurt. Beyond that, the tone of this film came from Frances. Everyone wanted to participate to support Frances. She was absolutely instrumental in bringing together several rights-holders, and parties who have a history of in-fighting and tension, and I think they all rallied around her. Frances was now an adult and had an equal hand in how Kurt’s materials would be disseminated, and to be honest, as I look back on this whole thing, this film could not have been made without Frances’s support and participation. Between the time that I first met Courtney, which was in 2007, and the time that Frances came into the picture, things had changed quite dramatically. Many years after Courtney and I first met, we secured financing for the film, and it was at that point that I first was introduced to Frances. ![]() 5/13/2023 0 Comments Dave grohl the story teller![]() ![]() Based on CDC, state and city guidelines at the time of performance, protocols will include mask enforcement, increased cleaning and ventilation/filtration enhancements, vaccination and ID verification, and more. Finding these easter eggs is one of the things that makes re-reading the books so much fun. There are tidbits in each of the books that inform the other books, but you don’t have to notice these things to enjoy the story by itself. That said, it really doesn’t matter which Cosmere series you start with, which means any of these books are good starting points: I recommended reading the books in sequential order rather than trying to dive into the second book in a series without having read the first book. Recommended Reading Order for Cosmere Books If you’re looking something that will appeal to young adults, try Steelheart, Mistborn, or The Rithmatist. If you’re a younger reader or want something humorous and lighthearted, try Alcatraz vs. If you consider yourself a fantasy reader, try Mistborn: the Final Empire or The Way of Kings. ![]() If you don’t typically read fantasy, try Steelheart or Elantris.
